Fill the children’s library with books.

The Soup Kitchen of Muncie has a small library primarily dedicated as a children’s library with books.  We need help to fill the library with quality children’s books.  The donated books can be used or new.  We are in need especially of books for very young children – books that have lots of pictures with few words.

BY5 donated the library so that children would have an easy source for free books. BY5 is a local organization dedicated to “improve opportunities for children aged 0-5 to reach their developmental potential”. Their mission “is to transform our community by connecting Kindergarten readiness to economic success.”

Many days the library is empty of books for children.  Children love selecting a book and taking it home as theirs.  We also want to get parents excited about reading to their children and to be a model for their children as one who likes to read.  There are days when 8 to 10 books may be chosen.  Therefore it takes lots of books to keep the children’s library filled.

Mary Dollison is a community activist and a strong supporter of the BY5 library system as well as a regular volunteer at the Soup Kitchen of Muncie.  She was an elementary teacher with Muncie Community Schools for 35 years spending most of her time at Morrison Mock School.  She was the co-founder of MOMs (Motivate Our Minds)  She is  starting it in her own home.  She is currently on the board of MOMs and says she will be involved with the organization as long as she lives.  Mary truly believes in working for the betterment of children through education and reading.

Maybe you have some books that your children no longer read. Wouldn’t you like to donate them to a good cause?  To help fill the children’s library, books can be brought to the Soup Kitchen of Muncie from 7 – 11 am Monday through Friday or donate to this cause at the Soup Kitchen of Muncie.  We will buy books with your donation.
