As the year comes to a close, we can look at 2018 images and see significant Soup Kitchen of Muncie happenings. It has been a busy year with many changes. Thanks to our many volunteers, generous donors and grants from the Maxon Foundation and the Community Foundation or Muncie and Delaware County we have been able to serve, with respect and dignity, all who came to our doors seeking food.
The 2018 Annual Dinner and Auction, with event sponsor Patton Erie Insurance, was a main fund raising event for the Soup Kitchen of Muncie. Summerfest, held in late July, is an annual family picnic with many social service agencies providing information to guests. The Mission Garden at College Avenue United Methodist Church provided hundreds of pounds of fresh vegetables throughout the summer to the Soup Kitchen of Muncie. Many churches, service groups, businesses, and youth groups contributed sack dinners. Jacks Donuts, Panera Bread, Auntie Anne’s Pretzels, Little Caesar Pizza as well as Ball State Dining Services donated food weekly throughout the year. BY5 installed a small free library to encourage young children to read. Altrusa International donated numerous children’s book. The Christmas Breakfast was a festive gathering of guests and volunteers. Who is who? Hard to know. Everyone socialized together in the early morning.
The Soup Kitchen of Muncie had great community support all year without which it would be impossible to realize our mission of serving all who come to our doors seeking food. Thanks to all. Happy New Year!
