How do you say goodbye to a valuable intern?

Danielle Helms has been an intern from Ivy Tech Community College of Muncie this spring at the Soup Kitchen of Muncie Now it is time for her to move on with her life.  She will graduate with a AAS degree on May 17th.  She double majored in both baking and pastry arts as well as culinary arts.  What a hard working young woman!

Danielle completed her degree in just two years while working many hours as well as being a mom.  She said she decided to go to Ivy Tech’s culinary program after spending a year as a manager of a gas station.  Danielle stated she knew she did not want to do that the rest of her life and decided to follow her passion in food.   Ivy Tech has 120 students in the combined programs of baking and pastry and in culinary arts.  Chef Heather Pier is the chair of the Hospitality Program.

She has been an intern with mentor Chef Kirk Robey while at the Soup Kitchen of Muncie.  Following graduation she will start a full time position at Elm Street Brewing Company.  It’s hard to say goodbye.  A little pizza lunch doesn’t do it!

Danielle has been a bright light in the kitchen with her  good culinary skills, strong work ethic and bright personality. We will miss her and wish her a most successful career.
