Summerfest18 was fun for everyone even with the rain. The rain did not dampen spirits. It just brought everyone closer together – in the basement! Summerfest is the annual summer festival at the Soup Kitchen of Muncie. As any good picnic, it had great food – BBQ ribs and chicken by Miss Dee, 80 pounds of homemade potato salad, killer baked beans (yes, there is enough black strap molasses and hot sauce to almost “do you under”, watermelon, and 500 cookies donated by Diane and Sharon Hines. Of course, what festival would be complete without music, a children’s contest, and exhibits? Summerfest18 had these too.
Eighteen agencies who can provide services to the Soup Kitchen of Muncie’s guests were invited to participate. They took blood pressure, gave books tp children, and provided information about their services. A coloring contest teaching children about the dangers of drug use was popular especially because of the prizes
Summerfest18 was made possible by 20 sponsors – businesses, individuals and neighborhood churches. These generous sponsors enabled us to sometimes provide a “little extra” in the lives of our guests. Guests love Summerfest. Nearly 300 attended! This is the third year for the event.
